Disruptive technology for low-cost critical minerals refining and one-step cathode manufacturing
Founded in 2010, Xerion has invested over $100 million to develop a proprietary DirectPlate™ Molten Salt Electrolysis (MSE) technology for (i) low-cost refining of critical minerals and (ii) one-step manufacturing of high-performance cathodes from low-purity feedstocks.
Refining of critical minerals:
- Proprietary molten-salt chemistry dissolves unmodified feedstocks (such as crude cobalt hydroxide) without pre-treatment.
- Continuous DirectPlate™ MSE deposits high-purity metal directly from the molten-salt bath, sharply reducing refining complexity and costs.
Cathodes:
- Electroplating produces high-performance battery electrodes (e.g., cathode-plated foils) directly from impure feedstocks, eliminating three steps - battery-chemical refining, precursor production, and active cathode material synthesis - cutting costs and broadening viable feedstocks.
